Sept. 29, 2007

A battle of unbeaten's took place here in Decorah as Coe College and Luther College squared off with the #1 seed for the Iowa Conference team championships on the line.

Despite a hard-fought effort, Luther was defeated by the Kokawks 7-2. Coe captured two of three victories in doubles play and won all but one match in singles action en route to the victory.

Amy Christenson was apart of both victories for the Norse. She posted a tie-breaker win over Kate Yakes at #6 singles (6-2, 5-7, 10-2), and teamed with Kelsi Allen to post an 8-4 victory at #3 doubles.

Coe (6-0, 8-0) completed the afternoon defeating Loras College 9-0 and will enter the IIAC Team Championships on Oct 19-20 with a record of 6-0. The team championships will take place in Iowa City Oct. 19-20.

Following the Coe-Loras match, Luther played Loras and also posted a 9-0 victory. The Norse lost just 13 games in singles play and only three in doubles action, increasing its conference record to 6-1, 10-1 overall. The victory also secured the #2 seed for the team championships which means the Norse will receive a bye for the first round of the six-team tournament.
