What the Norse are Saying

"The transition from high school to college can be a challenging one. Moving into a new environment with new people and a new level of independence can be somewhat intimidating. Being involved with tennis, however, made this transition much easier. I remember the first day of classes my freshman year when I met my teammates at a team picnic and over the next few weeks realized that they would become some of my best friends.

Playing tennis at Luther College has been an extremely rewarding experience in many respects. Playing for a team with such a rich history of success creates a sense of pride as well as determination to continue the legacy. My eagerness to work hard is a result of the supportive coaching staff and teammates I work with. Over the years, I have made many memories with my teammates in practice, competition and beyond. Some of my fondest memories are from the road trips and spring break trips we have taken. Long van rides, plane rides and overnights turned out to be great bonding experiences. My first three years at Luther, my teammates and I traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina for spring break to play teams from across the country and I am looking forward to our trip this spring to Orlando, Florida.

Managing a busy schedule is one of the greatest transitional challenges that college students face. Being involved in athletics, however, I learned right away the importance of time management. My coaches have always put school as a number one priority, but even with these two demanding agendas, I have had the opportunity to participate in many of the extra curricular activities that Luther College has to offer, including: SAAC (as secretary in ’06), Backyard Wilderness Pursuit, PALS mentoring program, Luther Tennis Camps (as a counselor), Pike Kor and work study. Luther College has given me the opportunity to establish myself as a student, a tennis player and as a true believer in the benefits of a liberal arts education."
