Norse Second at ARI Invite - Jewell Sets School Record in Shot Put

Six teams traveled to the Augustana-Rock Island Invitational held Friday, April 18. Luther finished second with a point total of 208. Augustana won the team title with 258.50 and Northern Illinois University was third with 225.
Jess Jewell was one of four athletes who captured individual titles. Jewell placed first in both the discus (146-6) and the shot put (44-7) Her distance in the shot put is a new school record. Lauren Boleen won the javelin (105-6), while Erin Hokanson won the 10,000 meter run (41:22.13) and Katie Dolan crossed the finish line first in the 5,000 (18:26.74).
Runner-up finishes were achieved by Flannery Cerbin in the 1500 (4:50.44), Maia Yates in the 400 (60.25), and Jamie Newman in the 200 (27.07). Newman also reached the finals of the 100 with a qualifying time of 12.99. She finished third in the finals clocked at 13.07.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Lydia Huinker, Yates, Michelle Voigts and Hannah Huinker placed second clocked at 4:01.81.
The Norse also had a wealth of third place finishes. This list included, Hannah Huinker in the 400 (60.30), Annie McKay in the 1500 (4:53.14), Nicole Wilson in the 5000 (18:47.86), Cora Johnson in the 10,000 (42:05.03), and Voigts in the 400 hurdles (65.52).
On deck this week will be the Drake Relays and the Loras Open. The 99th Annual Drake Relays will take place April 24-26. The Loras Open will be held April 26th starting at 9:00 a.m.
