Luther Posts 3-1 Record at Sugar Loaf Classic

The volleyball team posted a record of 3-1 at the Sugar Loaf Classic hosted by St. Mary's University Sept. 7-8. Luther is off to its best start since 2001 and will enter this week's action with an overall mark of 5-4.
St. Mary's University (1-3) - Host St. Mary's defeated the Norse 3-1, posting game scores of 28-30, 30-23, 30-21 and 30-22. Ally Czechowicz and Leah Sikora led the Norse attack with 11 kills each. Heather Hoffman dished out 19 assists, while Molly Morrissey was credited with 10. Grayce Hamlin led the team defensively with 19 digs.
North Park (3-1) - Leah Sikora produced 20 kills and posted an attack percentage of .288. Morrissey, Hoffman and Amanda Eckhardt tallied 18, 11 and 10 assists respectively. Anna Simonson was credited with 19 digs. Luther posted game scores of 30-24, 28-30, 30-24 and 30-23.
UW-Superior (3-2) - Luther won its second match in a row defeating UW-Superior 30-19, 26-30, 30-15, 28-30 and 19-17 in the tie breaker. Abby Lahr was credited with 18 kills. She was followed by Czechowicz with 15 and Sikora with 13. Hoffman and Morrissey dished out 25 and 24 assists respectively. Grayce Hamlin led the team with 35 digs, while Lahr was credited with 16 and Simonson 18.
Loras (3-1) - In the first match of the season between these two Iowa Conference schools, Luther posted game scores of 30-27, 30-20, 19-30 and 30-25 to secure its fifth win of the year. Lahr led all attackers with 15 kills, giving her a team high 113 for the year. Morrissey dished out 25 assists and once again Hamlin led all defenders with 27 digs.
Hamlin was named to the all-tournament team. In four matches she tallied 92 digs, raising her season total to a team best 179.
The Norse return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when they will travel to Central College for a 7:30 p.m. match. On Friday, Sept. 14, Luther will travel to Minnesota to play Hamline University. This non-conference contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
