Three Norse named to All-Conference Team - head Coach Jane Gibbs Coach of the year
Nov. 6, 2009
The Iowa Conference announced the 2009 volleyball all-conference teams this afternoon. Emily Cory, Taylor Skoglund and Grayce Hamlin were listed among this year's all-conference honorees.
Cory, who was an honorable mention selection last year, was named to the eight-member first-team. Cory led the Norse this season with an average of 3.33 kills per set in league play, finishing fifth among the league leaders with 100 kills during the regular season conference schedule.
Skoglund, who was also named honorable mention a year ago, was a second-team selection. Skoglund averaged 2.79 kills per set while posting a team best attack percentage of .301.
For the second time in as many seasons, Hamlin was named honorable mention all-conference. Hamlin, who holds the school record for digs by a libero, once again led the Norse in this category averaging 4.74 per set.
Head Coach Jane Gibbs, in her third season at Luther, led the Norse to a 6-2 record and the second seed in this weekend’s Iowa Conference Tournament. The tie for second place in the final league standings is a school-best for Luther in volleyball. Entering the IIAC Tournament at 25-10, the Norse are enjoying their best season since finishing 27-9 in 1993. Luther has been ranked eighth in the last two Central Region rankings conducted by the NCAA. This is the first IIAC Coach of the Year honor for Gibbs as well as the first for a Luther volleyball coach.
