Luther Sweeps Buena Vista - Secures #2 Seed for IIAC tournament

The Luther College volleyball team swept Buena Vista University this evening here in the Regents Center 3-0. The Norse posted set victories of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-12.
The victory gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-2 and secures the #2 seed for the single elimination six-team Iowa Conference Tournament that will be hosted by regular season champions Simpson College Nov. 6-7. Luther's six wins in league play is also its best record during the regular season since 2002, while its overall mark of 25-10 is its best record since 1993, when the Norse tallied a record of 27-9.
Tonight also marked the final time seniors Grayce Hamlin, Tiffany Kruse, Heather Hoffman, Felicia Bridgers and student assistant coach Anna Simonson stepped on the home floor. All five were honored prior to the start of tonight's match.
The #2 seed for the Iowa Conference Tournament is big because the Norse will receive a first round bye. Luther will play the winner of the #6 Central vs. #3 Wartburg winner at 7:00 p.m. Friday night. If the Norse win this match, they will play the for the conference tournament championship and an opportunity to advance to the NCAA III National Tournament, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
In the other semifinal match, #1 Simpson will face the winner of the #4 Cornell vs. #5 Loras also at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
