Luther wins first ever NCAA III national Tournament match

The Luther College volleyball team posted its first ever victory in the NCAA III National Tournament this afternoon in Oshkosh, Wis. Luther defeated nationally ranked #15 College of St. Benedict 3-2. The Norse posted set scores of 15-25, 25-12, 15-25, 25-18 and 15-13.

The victory snapped an eight-match win streak for St. Benedict's (26-6), that was making its 15th appearance in the national tournament. Luther has now won nine of its last 10 matches and improved to 26-11.

Emily Cory provided the fireworks for the Norse offense recording a game high 22 kills. Felicia Bridgers and Taylor Skoglund were credited with 8 and 7 kills respectively. Taylor Hjerleid dished out 35 assists.

Luther advances to the semifinals of the Oshkosh Regional and will face the #6 seed of the tournament the University of St. Thomas at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

In today's first match, #14 St. Thomas defeated nationally ranked #7 UW-Whitewater 3-0.
