Luther Volleyball Team 1-1 After First Day of Sugar Loaf classic

The Luther College volleyball team increased its overall record to 3-1 following a 1-1 performance during the first day of action at the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic hosted by St. Mary's University (MN).

In the opening match, Luther dropped a 3-0 decision to St. Catherine's University. Three days ago, the Norse posted a 3-2 decision over the Wildcats in the season opener for both teams in St. Paul. St. Cate's posted set victories of 25-17, 29-27 and 25-23.

Taylor Skoglund was the only Norse player to reach double digit kill totals with 10. She was followed by Emily Cory with 9 and Tiffany Kruse and Lauren Boleen who both tallied 7. Molly Morrissey dished out 24 assists. The Norse an attack percentage of .187 compared to the Wildcats .242.

Luther rebounded with an impressive 3-0 victory over UW-La Crosse. Posting an attack percentage of .255, the Norse rolled to set victories of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20. Kruse was credited with 10 kills, followed by Cory and Skoglund with 7 each. Taylor Hjerleid dished out 29 assists.

Luther will continue play tomorrow with a match against St. Mary's University at 10:00 a.m., followed by a match against UW-River Falls at noon.
